Fokussiert und emotional habe ich mich schon immer in Bildern ausgedrückt. Bilder sind meine Sprache – über Sprachen hinaus – und für mich der unmittelbarste Weg, Emotionen mitzuteilen und auszulösen. Gedankenbilder wachzurufen bedeutet für mich, Lebenssinn und Lebensfreude weiterzugeben. Bild, Idee, Ausdrucksmittel und Material stehen dabei in enger Wechselwirkung und bedingen sich häufig gegenseitig. So entsteht trotz klarer Ausrichtung ein weites Spektrum.

Ein Bild kann die Seele erhellen, eine Idee sichtbar machen, Selbstzweck und zugleich Transportmittel sein. In meiner Jugend war es vor allem das Erste, im Heranwachsen das Zweite – heute ist es alles zugleich. Es fällt mir schwer, mich an den Eckpfeilern oberflächlicher Erfolge zu orientieren, die oft eher glücklichen Umständen als innerer Notwendigkeit entspringen. Dafür bedeutet mir die Kunst selbst zu viel. Stattdessen fasse ich lieber zusammen, wofür ich dankbar bin.

Weder Kritik noch Mode konnten mich jemals in meinem kreativen Schaffen bremsen –  dafür bin ich dankbar. Zwei Abschlüsse als Master of Arts und ein abgebrochenes Studium der Bildhauerei später bin ich meinem ehemaligen Mathematiklehrer, Prof. Dr. Klaus Ulshöfer, bis heute dankbar. Seine Veröffentlichungen zur darstellenden Geometrie und seine grenzenlose Begeisterung für räumliches Denken haben mein Verständnis geprägt – insbesondere in seinem philosophischen, nahezu universellen Blick auf die Verschmelzung von Mathematik und Raum.

Dankbar bin ich auch dafür, dass ich mein Studium und die folgenden Jahre als freischaffender Künstler durch mein handwerkliches Können finanzieren konnte. Illustration war dabei mein Fundament. Viele Jahre arbeitete ich als Gerichtszeichner für den SWR. Ich betreute zahlreiche Werbeagenturen und entwickelte visuelle Konzepte für Museen, unter anderem für das Steiff Museum und das Schokoladenmuseum Maison Cailler. Zudem verantwortete ich die Illustrationskonzepte für die deutschen Pavillons der Expo Shanghai und der Expo Milano. Buchillustrationen, Comics und Animationsfilme – etwa „Klea“ (TikTok / Universal Records, Animago Award) – gehörten dabei immer zu meinen liebsten Projekten.

Zu unterrichten ist für mich eine besondere Herausforderung. Eigene Ideen, Erfahrungen, Erkenntnisse und handwerkliches Wissen weiterzugeben bedeutet für mich Freude und Begeisterung am kreativen Prozess zu teilen. In zahlreichen Seminaren, unter anderem an der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, der Lazi Akademie und der März Akademie, konnte ich unterrichten. An der Hochschule der Medien war ich sechs Jahre als Dozent tätig. Darüber hinaus bin ich Professor an der National Film Academy Beijing und gebe dort Sommerseminare in den Bereichen Zeichentrick, Animation und Character Design.

Ich bin dankbar, als Künstler arbeiten zu dürfen und mit Ideen und Werken aktiv Welt zu gestalten. Neben Einzelausstellungen – etwa bei der Galerie Henn in Stuttgart sowie in Peking, Shanghai und Hongkong in den Wan Fung Galerien – präsentierte ich meine Arbeiten auf internationalen Kunstmessen.

Mit den Bildern des Asymmetrismus beginne ich ein neues Kapitel. Ich bin gespannt, wer den Mut hat, Gemälde auf eine neue, ungewohnt einfache Weise aufzuhängen: an nur einem Punkt – und dennoch mit natürlicher Harmonie und Balance im Raum.

Ein neuer Blick, der Räume mit Selbstverständnis verändert.

Ich freue mich darauf, gemeinsam mit euch Neues zu schaffen.

Biography

I have always expressed myself through images – with focus and emotion. Images are my language beyond languages, and for me the most immediate way to communicate and evoke emotion. To awaken inner images means sharing meaning, purpose, and a sense of joy in life. Image, idea, medium, and material are closely interconnected and often shape one another. This is how a wide and vibrant spectrum emerges, despite a clear artistic focus.

An image can brighten the soul, give form to an idea, and be both an end in itself and a vehicle of expression. In my youth, it was primarily the former; as I grew older, the latter – today, it is all of these at once. I find it difficult to define myself through the cornerstones of superficial success, which so often rely more on fortunate circumstances than on inner necessity. Art itself matters far too much to me for that. Instead, I prefer to reflect on what I am grateful for.

Neither criticism nor trends have ever been able to slow down my creative work – and for that, I am deeply grateful. After earning two Master of Arts degrees and discontinuing my studies in sculpture, I remain thankful to my former mathematics teacher, Prof. Dr. Klaus Ulshöfer. His publications on descriptive geometry and his limitless enthusiasm for spatial thinking profoundly shaped my understanding of form and space – especially through his philosophical, almost universal view of the fusion of mathematics and spatial perception.

I am equally grateful that I was able to finance my studies and my early years as an independent artist through my craftsmanship. Illustration has always been my foundation. For many years, I worked as a courtroom illustrator for SWR. I collaborated with numerous advertising agencies and developed visual concepts for museums, including the Steiff Museum and the Maison Cailler Chocolate Museum. I also created the illustration concepts for the German pavilions at Expo Shanghai and Expo Milano. Book illustrations, comics, and animated films – such as Klea (TikTok / Universal Records, Animago Award) – have always been among my favorite forms of expression.

Teaching is always a special challenge for me. Sharing ideas, experience, insight, and craftsmanship also means sharing enthusiasm and joy in the creative process. I have taught in numerous seminars, including at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy, Lazi Academy, and März Academy. I served as a lecturer at the Stuttgart Media University for six years. In addition, I am a Professor at the National Film Academy Beijing, where I also teach summer courses in animation, character design, and traditional drawing.

I am grateful to be able to work as an artist and to actively shape the world through ideas and artworks. Alongside solo exhibitions, for example at Galerie Henn in Stuttgart and at the Wan Fung Galleries in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. My work has also been presented at international art fairs.

With my Asymmetrism paintings, I am opening a new chapter. I am curious to see who dares to hang paintings in an unusually simple way - from a single point – allowing harmony and balance to emerge naturally within a space.

A new perspective that reshapes rooms with quiet confidence.
